On December 1st Lower sixth A-level and IB geography classes went to Spitalfields to carry out a fieldwork investigation.

We began by visiting Sandy’s Row synagogue and had a talk about the interesting history of the building, which has been used as a naval training school for Henry the VIII, a chapel for the Huguenots and now it is a synagogue.

We then visited the Petticoat lane market and began to record fieldwork data, by filling in surveys or carrying out interviews on people in the area. This was very interesting as many people’s views on regeneration and reasons for not liking it were the same as reasons we had discussed in class.

Then, I continued and collected data along brick lane, and could see the type of shops and buildings change as we walked further westwards. We were able to see the many different buildings in the area, for example the now expensive Huguenot houses, along with new, later developments that are being considered for regeneration in the next few years.
